Que vendra at dock
Pragmatic Voyager

A beginning

We have purchased Qué vendrá on March 30th, 2020, right in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a culmination of almost a 6-month search, that took us through many boats and significantly changed our perspective on what kind of boat we were looking for.

We first encounter Outbound 46 at the 2019 Annapolis Boat Show, both as a new model in the show as well as used boats in nearby marina that our broker took us to. That boat was different from anything else we have looked at so far. The attention to detail and the thought put in designing the exterior and interior were apparent to us very quickly. We started seriously looking at buying one.

Luckily for us, a few Outbounds came up on the market on the West Coast in early 2020. We checked out one in Seattle, it was in great condition, but had a Pullman-style bed in the owners’ cabin, which we did not like. Then Qué vendrá (named differently at that time) came up. She was in Long Beach, CA. The first trip in February was to just check her out. We spent a full day looking into every corner of the boat and enjoying warm and sunny summer-like weather in SoCal. It was a great trip and a great break from winter in Seattle. A week later we put out an offer.

The second trip at the beginning of March was all business. We took the boat up for a sail, and we picked a great day for it – sunny with the wind starting in 10 knots and building up to 18 with higher gusts. The boat handled very well. Then we followed with a full survey and additional rigging and engine surveys, just to check everything we could. All went well. The rest was finishing all the paperwork to close on the purchase. In the middle of it, the world turned upside down with the COVID-19 pandemic and we had a few moments where we thought that we should hit a pause button. But in the end, we kept steady and got Qué vendrá.

She is now in Long Beach and awaiting the lockdown to be lifted to a point where we can sail her up the West Coast to Seattle. Until then, we are going through a shortlist of projects that need to be done before that trip, with the help of several people in CA.
